German expert organization TUV SUD has published vehicle reliability ratings for German fleets. Cars are ranked based on statistics on serious defects found during inspections. Experts agree that the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan is the best model, and the outlier position among new cars that has long been occupied by the Dacia Logan is this time replaced by the Tesla Model 3.
Experts say the average age of Germany's car fleet has risen to 10 years due to inflation, high loan rates and a diesel ban. In the two- to three-year-old car category, they rated the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan (2% of serious failures),
the Audi Q2 (2.1%) and the Audi TT (2.5%) as the most reliable.
The worst performers were the Tesla Model 3 (14.7%),
Dacia Logan (11.4%) and Seat Alhambra (10.3%).
In the five-year plan, the best are the same Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan (failure rate 4.2%), Volkswagen T-Roc (4.2%) and Volkswagen T-Cross (4.6%), and the worst are BMW X5/X6 (17. 9%), Volkswagen Sharan (17.7%) and BMW 2 Series Touring (17.6%).
Among vehicles under 7 years old, the leader is the Mazda CX-3, those under 9 years old are the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, and those under 11 years old and under 13 years old are the Audi TT. The worst performers in the same age category were Dacia Dokker, Renault Twingo and Dacia Logan.
